Congrats on the milestone of 100 Spontaneous Me Posts! Remarkable especially since everyone resonates with me. I love the idea of traveling towards something. Life is but a journey which takes us where we need to be. Thank you Gerry for making each Sunday morning so special.
One hundred posts! Congratulations, Gerard. This is a huge commitment, to come up with ideas and write every single week for 100 weeks. You take us so many places, within yourself and out in the world, and you dig deep and let yourself be seen. I am moved and inspired. I love your writing. And I love YOU.
I love you Claire. Thank you for your deep commitment to our friendship. Thank you for your loyal readership and for your loving support and feedback. It means the world to me!!
I love that travel for you has morphed from a way to blend into the places you visited to something else: "I have reinterpreted travel now as moving towards something—a sense of freedom and integrity within myself, a wholeness and connectedness with nature and mystery—and I welcome in a guiding, liberating spirit that moves through me and helps me to manage my life, my pilgrimages, and my writing projects."
Beautiful.
It's that wholeness and connectedness with the world that helps make your essays so mesmerizing and meaningful. That, and an off-the-chart writing ability! Congratulations on your 100th Substack post. Definitely a significant milestone.
Your honesty about who you are is one of the reasons you are my role model. You have embraced your true self with honesty and vigor, and I can see why you related so well to the bearded lady in the film, as well as her song. We need not be afraid of who we are, but we need to embrace it. That is one of the powerful lessons I've learned from you.
Thank you for the congratulations my dear friend! It seems like yesterday I was only beginning my journey with travel writing--it has gone by so quickly and I've so enjoyed exploring and writing for my readers here. I have tried to be more open, more vulnerable, more honest, with each blog post--we deserve nothing less. I thought the 100th posting was a good time to recalibrate, to look back at where I've been and look forward to more creative ways to challenge myself and keep my writing relevant, clear, and concise. I keep expanding and revising my credo here, doing my best to stay in focus. Your encouragement along the way Beth has kept me going. Thank you for always believing in me.
Your travel writing here on the Substack space is a gem, and I am so fortunate to witness your recalibration and vulnerability. Your essays are honest and always interesting.
Congratulations on your first 100 posts, and I look forward to your next 100! I so enjoy reading about your journeys around the world. You give me a glimpse into destinations I may never have the time to visit. Thanks!
Oh Nancy your kind words are so lovely--thank you for your consistent support and for showing up here to cheer me on--it really means so much to me--thank you always!
I love how you tie together travel, discovery and wonder to a sense of possibility for both inside, and outside transformation, Jerry. That truly seems to have been key to your own evolution--opening both doors to the light. Thank you for underscoring it so adroitly accompanied by music, museums, shows and musings.
Traveling for me is a way to open my eyes wide, to deepen my sense of observation--not just seeing, but hearing, tasting, smelling and touching the world around me. It helps take me out of my own, small everyday worries and woes, and into the world.
Congrats on reaching 100 posts!
P.S. I wonder if you plan on making it back to Chicagoland anytime soon to take us through the new Obama Presidential Center? I have been following its opening act this weekend and can't help but contrast the care and thought put into creating this campus as a gift to We the People with the horror that is turning the White House into PT Barnum's worst nightmare. Alas.
Robin your consistent support and good wishes mean the world to me and keep me going. Thank you for all your wonderful insights and for sharing your simpatico ideas here with me. I won't be back to Chicago for a while but the Obama Center looks like a real world treasure. So proud of Michelle Obama for standing up to her critics and fighting back==go Michelle!
